My dearest 5 blog readers,

You know I’m not a hater at heart, and I don’t like to bring politics into the blogroom. But, I have to do it tonight — I promise it’ll be quick, like pulling the band-aid off the wound. I have to ask: Who voted for Rick Scott for governor?

Seriously. I would like to know, because I know I didn’t. And I haven’t met or heard of anyone that’s said anything close to being a ray of sunshine or even an M&M found on the floor about this man. Being that my family and friends consist of policemen, firemen, teachers and other state employees, Gov. Scott is not on my good side.

Some Scott highlights:

– Visited some of South Florida’s beaches in April, wearing custom cowboy boots.

Yee-haw.

– Closed the door on high-speed rail plans for Florida.

I can’t wait for horse and buggies to make their comeback.

Signed a bill to kick off merit-based pay and new rules on tenure for teachers, plus he’s proposed education cuts that would further reduce per-child spending.

Welcome to FloriDuh!

– Proposed pension reform for state workers, which includes state employees paying as much as 5 percent of their salary to their retirement account.

Ugh.

Some funny shit is out there.  Some crazy shit, too.  I love reading all the funny/crazy, but then get sad because I wonder, “Why can’t I be that funny/crazy?”  Then I remember one of my favorite phrases: If you can’t be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.  Anywho, here’s to some more of that funny/crazy:

A Ticket For Ru$h.  Politics or not, Rush Limbaugh is _____ (insert your own adjective, because all the ones I want to use won’t fit on that little line).  So, “two dudes living in Brooklyn” are vowing to raise enough money to send him there.

Hot Tub Time Machine.  I can’t say whether I actually think this movie will be funny, but I will say that I like hot tubs, the 80s and John Cusack.  So …

Oprah and Jenna Jameson.  I never thought those two names would be in the same sentence, let alone the same studio.

OMG cat.  This is just ridiculous and cute and crazy and funny all wrapped up into one.  I’m sorry, since getting a cat, I can’t help but check out these stupid cat videos.

Standing in front of the jumbo tv in downtown West Palm Beach, it was as though the cool temperature suddenly rose a few degrees.  The blustery winds seemed to calm.  The collective pulse of the crowd steadied.

Today was glorious.  There is a lot of journalistic junk food – dress reviews, celebrity spotings, dance moves – that you could get fat on, but let’s not.  Let’s hope that we remember the little things – for me, it was the smile on the young girl’s face as she sat on her father’s shoulders, and the little tap dance in my heart after President Obama said, “On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.”  I hope that everyone – regardless of color, political affiliation, religious belief, preference for automatic or stick shift – let today remind them of how lucky we are to be Americans.

Watch and read President Obama’s entire speech here.

What an energy that this day has!  Of course, everybody is talking about the election…the radio, the TV, even my phone has been busy with “Have you voted today?!” and “Go Vote” messages and texts.

Tonight’s results (and…let’s hope it is ‘tonight’) will mean one person’s dreams may come true, yet another’s may be crushed.  In any event, history will be made.  It’s quite a thing to be a part of; this election will be talked about, analyzed, compared to, measured against, etc….  For some, who they vote for is a private matter.  For me, here I am, with a forum (this blog) to express myself, so on this final day of the 2008 Election…here it goes…

I am female.  I support a woman’s right to choose; is a democracy not giving freedom to its citizens?  I am proud to be American.  I believe in evolution.  I want humans to be treated equally regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or religion.  I support separation of church and state.  I hope we, as a nation, regain focus on technology and science.  I am a Democrat.  And, I believe we don’t have to hold the same beliefs to respect, or even love, one another.

We, as Americans, don’t need to separate ourselves for fear of being lost in the crowd, rather we need to unify to create a better crowd.

So, have you voted today?????  How were the lines out there???  Where will you be watching the poll updates??
