Happy Earth Day!  Of course, the reality is that everyday should be Earth Day.  What really is Earth Day, though?  According to the Earth Day Network, Earth Day is a celebration of the birth of the modern environmental movement, which was founded by Gaylord Nelson who was, at the time, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin.  Well, don’t ya’ know!  (Say that in your best Wisconsin midwestern accent!)  On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets and parks around the nation to demonstrate in favor of a healthier environment (check out the pic!).  And it was this action that actually led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Act.

Wow.  Did not know this.
