Now, this blog is usually reserved for the slightly ridiculous musings of my mind, but today, I hope it stands out to help Haiti.  At the very least, make one more person aware of the country’s situation.  Haiti is very close to my FIL’s heart, in particular – he has made several trips there as part of Living Water Ministries of the Palm Beaches (LWM), an organization keen on providing essentials such as food, water, and clothing as well as building medical clinics and schools.  Even JP had the opportunity to visit Haiti last July with LWM (read that blog post here).

Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, has been hit hard the 2008 hurricane season – Faye, Gustav, Hanna, and Ike.  Although Haiti’s still standing, the one-two (three-four) punch knocked out bridges and flooded cities and major roads.  With no roads, it’s almost impossible to get humanitarian relief to the worst-hit parts of the nation.  Food is scarce, clean water is nil – and that’s before the hurricanes even hit.  The hurricanes have only made the situation in Haiti worse.  Today, hundreds are dead and thousands are left homeless.  (Read Newsday.com’s In Haiti, hurricane leaves behind starvation, disease.)

Even Hollywood is paying attention to this small nation (Haiti is roughly the size of Maryland).  Matt Damon and Wyclef Jean are currently touring Haiti in hopes of bringing much-needed attention to the dire situation.   They’re aim is to help the U.N. raise $100 million to go to Haiti.  (Read the AP story here.)

LWM has been focused on helping Haiti for several years and will continue to do so countless more to come, and I hope YOU can help them continue their efforts.
