We had an awesome time rafting down the mighty Nymboida River on Sunday!!!!

We left the Gold Coast on Saturday, around noon, and we headed south to New South Wales. Traffic was getting crazy on the Gold Coast, but it thinned out completely once we crossed the state border. After a few stops here and there, we managed to arrive in Coffs Harbour, NSW, before dark. We checked into our hotel, and then we patrolled the area looking for a good place to get some food.

And, damn, did we hit it spot on! The 4 of us decided to eat at a little Indian dive called Oberoi’s, which is located on the Jetty Strip in Coffs Harbour. We ordered 4 dishes to share – Josh Rogan, Butter Chicken, Mushroom Curry and another chicken dish that I can’t remember the name of. And, the food was awesome!! So much so that we (almost) forgot about the hour-long wait to get the food.

Anywho, back to rafting. Sunday – we were ready to go at 7:30 AM. The company, Wildwater Adventures, had a courtesy bus pick us up at our hotel, and then we headed into the Binderay National Park where we would begin our rafting adventure. The ride into the Park was about 90 minutes or so, but it was through State and National Parks, so the scenery was great! At the site, we were given morning tea and snacks, and our instructors – Rob and Rocky – gave us a safety chat. Before long, though, we were in the boat learing to “front paddle,” “back paddle,” “hold on” and “get down!

The rafting experience was incredible, and we had great guides. Our boat was led by Rob who has been doing this for years, and he had tons of info on the area. From native plants and animals to stories about helping film The Endless Summer.

Ahhh, the mighty Nymboida River!

We also got a glimpse of some wildlife – turtles, goannas, frogs, and…a Red-bellied Black Snake – yes, that’s one of the TOP 20 Deadliest Snakes!!!!
