I’m still in shock. The world is crying. Ed McMahon. Farrah Fawcett. And Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. I can’t say for certain, but I think the Afterlife just got funnier, sexier and musically enhanced x 1000. Rest in peace.
Not that I don’t appreciate a good cover song or sample, but it seems I’m hearing more and more and more of them these days. Or, now that I think of it, maybe I’m just getting older and know more songs. Well, I certainly move to strike that last statement from the books. Anywho, I was just listening to some jams at work and suddenly I realize I’m singing the lyrics to Tainted Love – however, not the 80s Soft Cell hit I know so well and love. Come to find out, it’s the original 60s Tainted Love by Gloria Jones.
Which version do you like better?
This is one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs. Actually, the entire Violator album is amazing – if you don’t own it, I highly recommend you make that purchase. My brother, Craig, gave me my first Depeche Mode tape (yes, tape!) – Songs of Faith & Devotion, and it was love at first listen.
It’s not often that we, as adults, get to step back in time. Who doesn’t want to take a break from reality and remember what it was like before bills and jobs – you know, real responsibility?! There is a unique time in life when the only complications are who to invite to your next birthday party and whether that special someone would check the “Yes,” “No” or “Maybe” box in the letter you dropped on their desk.
Well, we attended a friend’s birthday fiesta over the weekend. It started out as your run-of-the-mill birthday dinner (note: awesome epanadas at Bizaare Ave Cafe in Lake Worth, FL) with friends and family, but soon turned into a flashback, good times and sweet 80s music event! Did someone say….Roller Skating???!!!
Let’s be honest, it’s a good night anytime I hear a vocodor voice sayin Freestyle’s kickin’ in the house tonight, move your body from left to right, to all you freaks don’t stop the rock, that’s Freestyle speakin’ and you know I’m right…
